Additional information about the financial instruments available in the Member States in the fields of urban mobility and promotion of clean and energy-efficient road transport were to be included in the relevant websites. The Clean Vehicle Portal aims to ensure a level of demand for clean and energy-efficient road transport vehicles and encourage manufacturers to invest in development of vehicles with low energy consumption, CO2 emissions and pollutant emissions. It offers access to a large and innovative database system of vehicle data. Feel free to use the vehicle-search above and achieve comparable listings of vehicles in order to your search terms and procurement requirements. - European Commission: DIAL 112 for Emergency
- BELGIUM
- http://ec.europa.eu/digital-agenda/112
- Europa has set up a special website with details of emergency services throughout Europe operating on the 112 number. This is a One number for emergency services throughout Europe. 112 is the phone number designed to enable everyone to call emergency services anywhere in the European Union, from a fixed or a mobile phone free of charge. Would you know what number to call if you had an accident at work or at school? What if you were on holiday abroad? Wherever you are in the EU, there's just one number you need to remember for emergency services - 112. In an emergency, every second counts. You don't want to have to scrabble round to find a phone number when someone's life is at stake. That's why the EU has introduced a single number for all member countries. The same number can be used if your house is on fire in Sweden or if you have a road accident in Italy. When you call 112, a local operator will either deal with your call directly or redirect you to the emergency service you need - ambulance, police or fire brigade. You can dial 112 free of charge from a landline, mobile phone or a payphone. The calls usually work even if you're out of credit or outside the range of your mobile network.

- European Commission: Nanomaterial Definition
- BELGIUM
- http://ec.europa.eu/environment/chemicals/nanotech
- European Commission on 18 October 2011 adopted "Recommendation on the definition of a nanomaterial". According to this Recommendation a "Nanomaterial" means: A natural, incidental or manufactured material containing particles, in an unbound state or as an aggregate or as an agglomerate and where, for 50 % or more of the particles in the number size distribution, one or more external dimensions is in the size range 1 nm - 100 nm. In specific cases and where warranted by concerns for the environment, health, safety or competitiveness the number size distribution threshold of 50 % may be replaced by a threshold between 1 and 50 %.By derogation from the above, fullerenes, graphene flakes and single wall carbon nanotubes with one or more external dimensions below 1 nm should be considered as nanomaterials. The definition will be used primarily to identify materials for which special provisions might apply e.g. risk assessment or ingredient labelling. It is noted that those special provisions are not part of the definition but of specific legislation in which the definition will be used. There exist several pieces of EU legislation and technical guidance supporting implementation of legislation, with specific references to nanomaterials. In order to ensure conformity across legislative areas, where the same materials are often used in different contexts, the Recommendation also provides a coherent cross-cutting reference. This should help to ensure that a material which is a nanomaterial in one sector will also be treated as such when it is used in another sector. Nanomaterials are not considered to be intrinsically hazardous per se but there may be a need to take into account specific considerations in their risk assessment. A third purpose of the definition is therefore to provide clear and unambiguous criteria to identify materials for which such considerations apply. It is only the results of the risk assessment that will determine whether the nanomaterial is hazardous and whether or not further action is justified.

- European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) European Platform on Life Cycle Assessment
- BELGIUM
- http://eplca.jrc.ec.europa.eu
- European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) European Platform on Life Cycle Assessment website includes Life Cycle Thinking (LCT) designed to help businesses and consumers assess the environmental impact of products and service and seeks to identify possible improvements to goods and services in the form of lower environmental impacts and reduced use of resources across all life cycle stages. This begins with raw material extraction and conversion, then manufacture and distribution, through to use and/or consumption. It ends with re-use, recycling of materials, energy recovery and ultimate disposal. The key aim of Life Cycle Thinking is to avoid burden shifting. This means minimising impacts at one stage of the life cycle, or in a geographic region, or in a particular impact category, while helping to avoid increases elsewhere. For example, saving energy during the use phase of a product, while not increasing the amount of material needed to provide it.

- Subsport - Substitution Support Portal of Chemicals
- BELGIUM
- www.subsport.eu
- Subsport aims to show that the substitution of chemicals is a fundamental measure to reduce risks arising from the use of dangerous chemicals in products and processes. Substitution can support risk reduction for the environment, workers, consumers and public health. Substitution can be accomplished by the use of an alternative, less hazardous substance. In many cases other technologies that do not need hazardous chemicals can be applied. We do not consider the reduction of exposures to dangerous substances, e.g. by means of protective or containment measures like extraction or waste water treatment plants, to be substitution. The goal of the SUBSPORT project is to develop an internet portal that constitutes a state-of-the-art resource on safer alternatives to the use of hazardous chemicals. It should be a source of not just information on alternative substances and technologies, but also of tools and guidance for substance evaluation and substitution management.

Initially the victims began to contact former colleagues and discovered that many were suffering from respiratory problems. Medical examinations revealed an epidemic of asbestos related disease. They linked up with workers at the Thermoid brakes factory, also in São Paulo, to form the ABREA. ABREA has sought compensation for its members while raising the issue at a national and international level, culminating in the international conference in Osasco in September 2000, that created a very strong influence on the politicians and public opinion that afterwards approved the majority of laws to ban asbestos currently in Brazil in a domino effect. ABREA is nowadays organized in several cities and also in Rio de Janeiro State where a former Johns-Manville subsidiary has a textile plant which the women are the majority of the exposed workers. - The German Occupational Hygiene Society – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Arbeitshygiene (DGAH) – represents a group of occupational health and safety experts, devoted to the promotion and development of occupational hygiene. Occupational hygienists practice their profession to protect the working people and the public from chemical, biological and physical hazards. The Occupational hygienist is an indispensable member of the occupational health and safety multidisciplinary team, which includes professionals with different backgrounds and training, such as the occupational physician, health physicist, nurse, safety engineer, toxicologist, chemist, ergonomist and psychologist. New technologies do continue to present new risks, thus challenging the occupational hygienist to develop effective solutions. Therefore, an essential part of DGAH’s activity is the adaption of occupational health-measures at the changing technological world and at the variations of socio-economic conditions.
