The INFORMER
Todwick Parish Council
No. 74 - SPECIAL EDITION
June 2007
NEW PARISH COUNCIL
A new parish council has been elected and welcomes 3 new members - Ken
Mathieson, Stephen Hill and Brian White. All live in the village, have
some considerable experience and will make a valid contribution to both
the parish council and the local community. A new chairman - Paul
Langford, and deputy chairman - John Palmer have also been elected. Our
thanks to Clive Pantry, the retiring chairman, who has performed a
commendable job chairing and running meetings for the last 12 years. It
must be noted that Clive has not totally hung up his boots and remains a
fully-fledged parish councillor. However, there is still a vacancy on the
parish council. If anyone is interested please contact Paul Langford or
Rod Walker who will give you an insight into the role and answer any
questions. We welcome any potential councillors but are particularly short
of ladies. The first formal meeting of the new council will take place at
7.00pm on Tuesday 26th June 2007 in Todwick Church Hall. As normal there
is an open session at 8.30pm. The full list of councillors including

On the same note we would like to pass on our many thanks to retiring
councillors Mary Gregory, Les Waller, Brenda Waller and Jack Cloke. These
people have worked tirelessly in the past for the village and the parish
council in particular. Our special thanks go to Mary, Les and Brenda who
have jointly served for a grand total of 85 years on the council. It was
Mary who instigated the purchase of the children's playground and Les was
instrumental in the acquisition of the bowling green and clubhouse.
Without their contribution who knows where the parish council would be
today!
NEW VILLAGE HALL
We are delighted to be able to take this opportunity to let you know
that the official re-opening of Todwick Village Hall will take place on
Saturday 23rd June 2007. The official ceremony will actually be at 11am
but we will open, and keep the Village Hall open, from 10am until late
afternoon that day. We are very fortunate that we will be joined on the
day by a local lad - and now celebrity from the very popular BBC
television programme 'Strictly Come Dancing' - Darren Bennett together
with his wife and professional dancing partner, Lilia Kopilova, who have
kindly agreed to perform the official opening. At their request donations
from the day will be in aid of the Bluebell Wood Hospice and it is hoped
that a representative from the Bluebell Wood Appeal will also be present
to collect monies raised.
The new Village Hall now has four rooms available for use by everyone
together with extended kitchen facilities. In addition to regular groups
it will be available for hire for parties, conferences, meetings, etc. If
you wish to know more about the new facilities then please do make contact
with the person who oversees bookings at the Village Hall, Anne Rusling
(telephone 01909 770081) who will be only too pleased to assist you.
In the immediate days following the official opening, it is proposed
that the Village Hall will be open during the day and evening. So, even if
you are not able to join us on the actual day itself, there will be other
opportunities for you to come and look around.
Many thanks to everyone associated with the new Village Hall project
but especially to the Village Hall and Building Committees who through
their hard work, commitment and dedication in recent years have ensured
that it actually materialised. The Village Hall is now a much larger,
modern building with good facilities and we hope it will continue to be
used by all of the community for many years to come.

no charge for joining as the Parish Council has agreed to pay the initial
£1 per household. There are many benefits to belonging to the scheme

valuables. Many insurance companies recognise the value of Neighbourhood
Watch Schemes and will give a discount on house insurance premiums.
However, you must be signed up to the scheme to take advantage of this

encourages households living in close proximity to keep an eye open for
each other when their neighbours are on holiday. It supports a community
spirit which promotes "inclusion". So why not join? I am a phone

CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND
As this edition of the Informer goes to print we expect the new fence
at the playground (adjacent to the Church) will have been installed. The
new fencing, in addition to repairs to the perimeter wall, should ensure
the playground remains in tact and a safe place for the children of our
village.
The Informer is published three times per year by Todwick Parish
Council. If you have any news or items of interest you wish to have
published please contact Phil Kettell on 771161 or e-mail to philkettell@googlemail.com.
The next issue will appear in July 2007.
