Respiratory Diseases (10th ICORD)

The 10th International Conference on Occupational
Respiratory Diseases (10th ICORD) will be held in Beijing,
China, from 19 to 22 April 2005. The Conference is organized by the
International Labour Office (ILO) in collaboration with the Ministry of
Health of China, with the participation of the World Health Organization
(WHO), the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) and the
International Occupational Hygiene Association (IOHA). The nine previous
Conferences were held respectively in Johannesburg (1930), Geneva (1938),
Sydney (1950), Bucharest (1971), Caracas (1978), Bochum (1983), Pittsburgh
(1988), Prague (1992) and Kyoto (1997).
The Conference theme is "Occupational Respiratory Hazards in
the 21st Century: Best Practices for Prevention and
Control" and the following are the major topic areas
- Epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of occupational
respiratory diseases
- Health surveillance of workers exposed to respiratory hazards
- Health hazard evaluation by environmental and exposure monitoring
- Preventive and control measures against occupational respiratory
hazards at the workplace
- Intervention effectiveness in prevention and control of occupational
respiratory diseases
- Management of respiratory hazards: technology, training and
communication
It will provide an excellent opportunity for scientists, occupational
physicians, health practitioners, hygienists, engineers, management,
workers and legislators to exchange scientific and technical information
on the health effects of air pollutants at the workplace and on the
prevention and control of occupational respiratory diseases.
The deadline of the submission of abstracts for this conference is
October 15 2004
Authors of papers related to the Conference themes are requested to
submit abstracts for review.
A collection of abstracts of oral and poster presentations will be
printed directly from the submitted texts and distributed to all the
participants. The abstracts can be submitted either via Conference Website
www.icord2005.com
or emailed to scientific@icord2005.com
(If you choose to use email, please download the standard MS Word format
from the website) or typed on the enclosed Abstract Form and mailed to the
Conference Scientific Committee. In order to make the abstracts
comprehensible to most participants, the authors are required to submit
their abstracts in English, even if they are considering presenting their
papers in Chinese. The same is recommended for the text of the posters.
Before preparing your abstract, read the Guidelines for Submission of
Abstracts on the Abstract Form carefully. If you use the original Abstract
Form, please add three high quality photocopies.
Oral and Poster Presentations
Oral and poster presentations are equivalent. The Organizing Committee
reserves the right of the final decision to assign the accepted papers to
either oral or poster presentations. Authors will be notified of the
acceptance of their papers and will receive full instructions for each
presentation, the assigned date and time, as well as other pertinent
information.
- Time for Communications
Ten minutes will be allocated to each oral presentation, followed by
five minutes for discussion from the floor. For the poster sessions,
authors will be requested to be present during the assigned time for
presentations and discussions.
- Projection Facilities
Microsoft PowerPoint is encouraged for presentations. If an
alternative software is chosen, presenters would be requested to
provide their own laptop and necessary software. Slide projector for
35mm slides and equipment for overhead transparencies will be also
available.
- Proceedings
The Organizing Committee will publish the full text of presentations
as Conference Proceedings on CD-ROM. The authors of the accepted
papers are requested to email their manuscripts in MS Word format to
the Conference Scientific Committee at scientific@icord2005.com
not later than 20 March 2005. The total length of paper should not
exceed 6 pages, including tables, figures and references and typed one
and a half spaced lines. The heading of the paper should follow that
of the pattern of the submitted abstract.
