Drowning in information but thirsty for knowledge? Searching for and retrieving quality OSH and fire information from worldwide sources
Sheila Pantry OBE
May 2007
Are you drowning in information but not sure that you have the most
authoritative, validated and up-to-date occupational safety, health (OSH)
and fire information that you need? It is useful to be able to search the
World's billions of pages of website information using the various
sophisticated search engines. But when you have done this do you really
know how up-to-date the information you have retrieved is? Cost your time
- if you know your hourly rate - add this into the costs - you will be
surprised just how much your "free search" has cost you. And if
you believe that official bodies have "everything" on their
sites - think again and be assured that this is another myth. There are
very few official bodies that have all the relevant information - i.e.
legislation, guidance, advice, research results in one place.
So why not use some of the reliable sources in collections of validated
and authoritative information such as FIREINF, OSH UPDATE and IRISH OSH
UPDATE. These collections are continuously enlarged as new
information is published.
